Home Boarding

We are Coastal Dogs, and we offer home boarding for dogs.
Home boarding means that your dog stays in our home, with us, in a domestic environment while you are away. Staying in kennels may not suit all dogs, so home boarding provides the familiar surroundings of a family home.
We believe that when dogs are temporarily separated from their owners, they need continued interaction with humans and other dogs to keep them stimulated and to prevent frustration.

Your dog will live with us in our home as if it is one of our own dogs.
Home boarding has more than one meaning on the internet. There are some agency sites that, although they may provide a good service, do not actually board dogs themselves. We do not place dogs with a third party.

Our house is situated in the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside. We have a spacious day living room in which we also have our office, a very large conservatory and another large living room area for the dogs to make themselves at home.
The safety of your dog is our first responsibility and we do not leave them alone at any time. For nervous and timid dogs who may be with us for the first time, we have – and often use – a downstairs bedroom with dog beds to give them the option of sleeping with a close human connection.
We have a large range of dog beds in different rooms but you are welcome to bring your dog's own bed which will have a familiar scent.

We are licensed by the local authority to board a maximum of four dogs, and we have public liability insurance.

We are very sorry but we are unable to take any more bookings until 1st January 2013.

You may be concerned about your dog mixing with other dogs that may be with us, but as long as your dog can socialise, we have the experience and awareness to nurture the relationships of dogs coming together, and we understand the psychology which quickly leads to their becoming a calm, stable group.
Senior and insecure dogs are given the utmost respect and we have had good success in the past at making their stay enjoyable.

We aim to give your dog a balanced, calm stay, and let you have a stress-free break. We want to make your dog’s stay interesting and fulfilling. Daily walks are taken in a variety of rural settings. Normally we go for two walks a day for the length of time that your dog needs. We play with them in our secure garden with the toys that you may wish to bring along.

Requirements

Vaccination
Our licence only allows us to take dogs that have completed the full course of vaccination at least four weeks before boarding, and we will need a copy of the vaccination card.

Flea treatment
We require your dog to be treated in the week before its stay with Frontline
Combo
or Advocate, providing it hasn't been treated in the preceding three weeks.
This is to protect your dog, and our home.

Un-neutered male dogs
Experience has unfortunately led us to stop taking un-neutered males. In a home environment with neutered males, an un-neutered dog can often cause insurmountable problems.

Young puppies
Our licence requires your dog to be at least six months old, but we would like them to be around a year old. Not only do young puppies have special needs, but also older dogs can be very intolerant of their energy.

A visit to our home before the boarding is desirable, but not essential. We would like you to meet us, see our facilities and be comfortable with where your dog will be staying.
